Moon flower (Ipomoea alba)
Although a morning glory, it is quite different from the others by being nocturnal, so we are treating it separately.
An annual, but produces a large number of big seeds (crack open the pods when they turn black, which takes quite a long time), which you can keep for next year. Note: the seeds should be an ivory colour. If brown, they probably will not hatch. Soak the seeds in water overnight before planting. This is very easy to grow, with almost a 100% germination, producing big very easy to handle seedlings. Plant in a big (30 cm diameter) pot and it will produce a big very strongly climbing plant. Be careful to check regularly for mealybugs. Stems are fairly strong, but needs a wire frame to grow along or alternatively, you can grow it up tree trunks.
The flowers open in late afternoon and are huge (at least 15 cm) initially cream, but soon turn white, with a fantastic scent.
