Dwarf Aquilegia (Aquilegia flabellata)
A surprisingly successful plant grown as a winter annual. Produces a dense mat of large leaves only about 10 cm high, with flower spikes rising up above. Although it takes a while to reach flowering from seed, it then flowers for a prolonged period until the heat becomes too great. I have grown in semi-shade, growing in troughs which have quickly been covered in foliage. No real pest problems.
